Steward
The role of the Steward in a Masonic Lodge, while sometimes perceived as a junior position, is vital to the smooth functioning and fraternal atmosphere of the lodge. Stewards primarily focus on ensuring the comfort and well-being of the brethren, particularly during the Festive Board (the meal following the meeting).
Their duties often include assisting with dining arrangements, serving refreshments, and generally attending to the needs of those present. This provides an excellent opportunity for newer members to interact with and get to know the other members of the lodge.
Additionally, Stewards may assist in ceremonial duties, sometimes acting as assistants to the Deacons, especially during degree ceremonies.
In essence, they are the lodge's hosts, contributing significantly to the conviviality and harmony that are hallmarks of Masonic gatherings, and they are also able to learn the workings of the Lodge.
