Almoner
Maintain contact with Lodge members, including those who are not regular attendees, and with widows and dependants of former members.
He should be alert to problems they may face, and aware of the range of support that may be called upon. He will need to keep records of names and addresses, name of wife/partner, (and with widows it would be useful to know the next of kin).
Confidentiality and discretion are of primary importance as well as an awareness of Data Protection requirements. Be familiar with the appropriate support resources that are available.
The first point of contact for advice, help or training should be the Provincial Grand Almoner. The Almoner needs to possess considerable tact, courtesy, discretion, patience, sympathy and a commitment to helping people, together with the spare time and energy to devote to the benefit of Lodge members and their dependants.
The office of Almoner is one that benefits from continuity and it is suggested that a term of five years is generally appropriate.
